What is Microneedling?
Microneedling (collagen induction therapy) is a minimally invasive aesthetic treatment that uses fine-gauge needles to effectively and safely create micro-injuries in the needed areas of the skin. The micro-injuries trigger the natural production of collagen and elastin, two molecules that boost the health and appearance of your skin. Often combined with other skin treatments, like PRP (platelet-rich plasma) or insulin, microneedling may help minimize scars, stretch marks, pores, and the brown spots called melasma. At Imperial Dermatology, Dr. Simona Bartos offers microneedling treatments that are highly personalized based on the needs of each patient. "Outstanding doctor! She finally found a diagnosis for an issue I've been dealing with since August of 2021. She was the only dermatologist who came to see me in the hospital to perform a biopsy, that the hospital would not do. She is very compassionate and caring! Most importantly takes her time with you, not like other doctors who makes you feel rushed. Highly recommend!"- L.P. / Google / May 11, 2022

Our Microneedling Technique
Collagen induction therapy with microneedling is done in one of our private procedure rooms in about 30 – 60 minutes. A local numbing cream is provided before starting the treatment. The areas of skin being treated will be cleaned before the microneedling handpiece is used to make small pricks in the skin, which stimulate new collagen growth. After the procedure, a topical treatment, like PRP or a vitamin-infused serum, can also be applied to your skin. After your treatment, you might develop mild swelling and redness for about a day; however, this should subside naturally. You will notice significant improvements in the appearance and health of your skin after around 1 – 2 months, as the elastin and collagen levels start to increase.
How much does microneedling cost?
In your consultation, Dr. Bartos will evaluate your skin and then create your personalized plan. After this, she will review your costs and the procedure. Imperial Dermatology often has discounts on skin treatment packages, so ask about current deals in your consultation.
What exactly is microneedling?
Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a nonsurgical treatment to improve the health of your skin. Collagen is a fibrous protein that helps your skin stay supple, smooth, and tight. Eventually, your natural stores of collagen are depleted, and your skin gets less elastic and thin. Microneedling creates tiny wounds in your skin. These micro-injuries force your skin to generate new skin cell growth and increase collagen production. After a short recovery period, your skin appears healthier, firmer, and brighter.
Can I combine other treatments with microneedling?
During the microneedling process, channels are created in your skin that make it easier for treatments to penetrate the deeper layers. This is why microneedling is frequently combined with other treatments, like special serums or PRP (platelet-rich plasma). Microneedling plus PRP is often called a Vampire Facial®. In your initial consultation, Dr. Bartos can explain what treatments would enhance your microneedling and which best fit your skin goals.
How many treatments are recommended for optimal results?
Most patients need 3 – 6 sessions to achieve their best results. Although, how many sessions you need will vary based on your goals and the condition of your skin. Microneedling may be safely performed every 4 – 6 weeks. During your initial consultation, Dr. Bartos will estimate how many sessions you might need based on your skin and goals. Once your skin goals are reached, Dr. Bartos recommends getting touch-up sessions about twice a year.
Is microneedling safe for everyone?
On the whole, microneedling is appropriate for all skin types and tones. Since the skin injuries created are so small, there are very few side effects afterward. Microneedling can be performed on most skin areas, including the face, arms, neck, thighs, chest, and lower legs. Microneedling is not recommended if you have been on Accutane in the last few months, as well as if you have an active skin infection, herpes simplex, or open wound. Additionally, you may not be a candidate for microneedling if you are nursing, pregnant, or getting radiation treatments.
